Two Japanese words, 'rei', meaning Universal and 'ki', meaning life force energy combine to give the word Reiki. Ki, also known as 'qi' or 'chi', flows through all living things - it keeps us alive.
We receive this energy from many sources; sunshine, food, water and the Earth itself.
The Reiki practitioner 'channels' this energy through their hands in a concentrated, powerful form. Reiki works on all levels of one's being - physical, mental and emotional. It is a non-invasive therapy, where the client remains fully clothed. Reiki can also be integrated into a therapeutic massage routine.
Chakras ('wheels' or 'discs' in Sanskrit) are energy centres located in specific parts of the body. As part of the treatment the chakras are brought back to a balanced flow. Essential oils can be used on specific chakras to enhance the effects of the treatment.
